There are some historical figures and landmarks that are so famous we end up learning about them without having to read from a history textbook. Their presence is embedded deep in our culture; so much so, that we don’t spare them a second thought. But we should. We simplify historical figures and places too much. We know the "gist" of them, but maybe it's time we learn the full story.
